Weekend Wellness

Weekend Wellness

I recently had a wonderful weekend away from my daily grind. This extended holiday weekend was the perfect time to escape into nature to reconnect and relax.

What’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in nature? Camping!

We found an excellent secluded campground in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. It had artesian well access, a wonderful swimming beach, a beautiful lake with boat access, hiking trails, nicely sized wooded sites, and a wonderful variety of flora and fauna.

Benefits of Camping

Camping is a very accessible activity. You really don’t need much at all to camp, just a strong desire and the will to do it! What you do need is transportation (unless you choose to camp in your backyard), a shelter of some sort (even a tarp will do), something to sleep on, some blankets, some food, and access to water.

The best kind of camping is the type that gets you back in touch with nature. I don’t mean camping at a resort, with a pool, running water, or electricity.
Camping without amenities deepens your gratitude for the services and conveniences of the modern world. It also shows you and teaches you resilience and how to survive without these things. Our ancestors lived off of the land and were able to survive for centuries; it is very possible for you to live in the outdoors for just a few days!

Having no electricity and no wireless signal means your body can relax. The constant bombardment of EMF ceases when you are in these tranquil places. Therefore, your body has an opportunity to regenerate and detox without interference. We noticed reduced facial wrinkles and puffiness after just these few days. Our inflammation symptoms went down as well!

Stepping out into the outdoors is great for grounding or “earthing”. Grounding is done by placing your bare feet or hands on the soil, rocks, trees, or a natural body of water. This is a very important thing to do when you are feeling the overwhelm of society and EMF exposure. It is a great tool to help you root yourself in the beauty of life, and staying present in the moment. People who ground also experience decreases in pain and stress, and an increase in healing and relaxation. You can learn more about grounding here.

The most abundant benefit of camping? Fresh air! Freshly oxygenated air made by lush, green plants. Need I say more?

Being in the great outdoors always improves my mood. I just have to be happy when surrounded by so much natural beauty.
If you are having trouble enjoying your time outside, you can try learning about the different types of plants, animals, or even rocks found in your area. Learn all about them, learn how to ID them, and go out to see what you can find! There is so much variety out there, especially if you find a well-preserved area. The area where camped this weekend had a very different profile than where we live. The trees were mostly Canadian hemlock, sugar maple, birch and ash, with understory shrubs of serviceberry, ironwood and witch hazel. With these different plant varieties, we also saw different wildlife such as birds and butterflies that are not common in our area. It’s an even more beautiful world out there when you know what you’re looking at!

Kids love exploring the outdoors too, so don’t use them as an excuse to stay home 😉 Bring them with!

There is also something about cooking your food over an open fire. It gives a very good flavor and gives another bit of connectedness to our past.

Please Go!

I have so many good things to say about camping. Yes, it may require a bit of preparation. And it is so WORTH IT.

Please get out of your house at least once this summer and go camping! If you have no experience, ask a friend to go with you and teach you. It is such a beneficial and cost-effective activity that everyone should enjoy!

Thank you for reading!
